Tasting Notes
Seductive, intense aromas of luscious blackberry entwined with rich black pepper entice you to that first sip. Once you’ve tasted this Zin, you’ll want to try it again and again. Layers of ripe blackberry, spicy raspberry and subtle black pepper flavors burst on the palate and then linger into a long finish. Firm yet softening tannins and smooth oak notes provide a solid structure and balance nicely with the rich, concentrated flavors. The pairing options seem endless—from grilled leg of lamb marinated with rosemary and garlic to eggplant Parmesan to flourless chocolate cake—so create a menu or just pop the cork and enjoy!

Del Carlo 2006 Old Vine Zinfandel (Dry Creek
Valley); $32. H e r e 's a very dry, tannic young
Zinfandel that shows real depth and complexity. It has the rugged mouthfeel and spicy, peppery flavors that mark a good Dry Creek Zin. The fruit suggests wild black, blue and red berries. Drink now.

91 | Del Carlo Winery
From a branch of the Del Carlo-Teldeschi family that purchased their 50-acre Home Ranch in 1947, Ray Teldeschi makes this wine from vines that are more than 100 years old. It's a restrained style of Dry Creek zin, dense and gracious at once, full but not fat. Dark cherry ruit plumps up the tannins in the finish, with a balance that will serve the wine well as it ages.
